By Bill and Evelyn Balis of Adelphia Life moves so fast for most of us that we rarely stop to enjoy the adventure. We get up and rush to work, rush the kids off to school, rush off to dinner, and then rush home to get to sleep so that we can get up to start all over again the next day. In between rushing, we’re tweeting, texting, updating Facebook, checking out Instagram, and if we’re lucky, having short conversations with our friends, family and neighbors. It’s exhausting just thinking about the way we live our lives. Well I’d like to inspire you to slow down to enjoy life’s journey and work some thoughtful reflection into your routine.
At Adelphia, we are fortunate to witness several wedding services each month. These beautiful moments are truly inspirational for us, and often bring up reflection about our friends, family and the choices we make in daily life. We feel so lucky that we get to hear the priests, pastors and rabbis reflect about life and current events as they relate to significant moments in history, as well as new brides and grooms pledging their love and devotion to each other as they recite their vows and begin the journey of spending the rest of their lives together. We know that we are extremely fortunate to have so many opportunities for reflection during all of the services that our team orchestrates. We’d like to encourage you to savor the moments in your life that provide you the opportunity to slow down and just take everything in. Think about how beautiful new beginnings like weddings, childbirth and the collection of first time experiences that we all encounter throughout our lives are. Think about how cool it is that we have all this incredible technology in our lives — we can find out what’s happening anywhere in the world within seconds. We do live in an amazing time, which we work so hard to keep pace during, but none of us seem to slow down to enjoy the moments nearly enough. Now that we have come to this introspective place in our lives, we force ourselves to slow down and savor the process constantly. For those of you planning a wedding in the near future, we can’t stress how rewarding you’ll find embracing the planning process, which takes place over several months for most couples. The bonding you and your future spouse will share over the planning of your wedding will be equal if not more meaningful than the blur that is your wedding day. Dr. Seuss once said, “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” The way we see Seuss’s prolific wisdom: If you’re up late dreaming about and/or planning your wedding, make a list of everything that you want to happen during your special day and bounce it off of us. Exceeding our brides and grooms’ expectations is what we do, and we want to know everything we can possibly do to make your wedding day extra special. So whether you are inspired by our encouragement or by the person leading the business meeting or religious service that strikes the nerve which evokes your inspiration, we hope you find a way to slow down and take more of the good stuff in. We’re certain you’ll appreciate the little things, like the way the people around you look when they’re happy. And we’re sure the little things will inspire bigger things that allow you to enjoy the ride even more than you can imagine. Here’s to you savoring the journey. Enjoy every second.
